 Description:  Locations of pending (in review) surface mining permits. 
               Coordinates are given for the easternmost intersection
               of the access road with a public road.

      Source:  Kentucky Department for Natural Resources (DNR) 
               Surface Mining Information System (SMIS) database.  

      Origin:  Latitude and longitude data are submitted by the 
               applicant in the permit application. Every effort has
               been made to verify the latitude and longitude, however
               errors in geographic coordinates do occur. In some cases,
               latitude and longitude may be field-verified by DNR personnel. 

               The SMIS database is used for tracking all permitting 
               and enforcement actions for coal mining activity in the
               Commonwealth of Kentucky including the current status of
               all pending and completed permitting activity. DNR 
               continuously updates and maintains the SMIS database, 
               from which the pending permits layer is extracted.
 
  Attributes:  Information describing each permit is contained in the 
               dBASE file, dsmre_pending_permits.dbf. Each record contains the 
               following items:

                  PERMIT_NUM    - application/permit number
                  CNTY_CD       - county code
                  QUAD_CODE     - quadrangle code
                  QUAD_DESC     - quadrangle name
                  PER_NAME      - permittee                
                  REGION_COD*	- Region name
                  DATE_RECEI    - date received	
                  STATUS_DAT    - status date	
                  STATUS        - status code	
                  STATUS_DES    - status description
                  LAT_DEG       - latitude degrees
                  LAT_MIN       - latitude minutes
                  LAT_SEC       - latitude seconds
                  LNG_DEG       - longitude degrees
                  LNG_MIN       - longitude minutes
                  LNG_SEC       - longitude seconds
                  MRP           - indicates availability of MRP map
