Minimum Configuration

Minimum software and hardware requirements:

Hardware

The following computer configuration is a suggested minimal configuration for accessing the Surface Mining Information System (SMIS) through the Internet.  A user would be able to access SMIS through slower computers, but access time will be longer.

Processor: Pentium 166 MHz
Modem Speed: 28K
Memory: 32K

Software

The following software must be installed on the computer to access SMIS.

Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator are Web browsers. They are used to interface with the Internet. Only one or the other is required.

Note: The Division of Mine Permits will provide JInitiator software on CD or floppy disk upon request.  To obtain a copy, please contact Jim Adamson at 502-564-2320 or by e-mail at Jim.Adamson@ky.gov.  The software may also be downloaded free of charge from the Oracle Web site at www.oracle.com.
